The AI & The Notes

AI in Noteasy is not on or off. It runs from 0, where nothing leaves your device, to 10, where your AI can create, edit, and manage notes on its own through MCP. You choose where on that dial you sit, and you can move at any time.

At 0 and 2, everything stays on your device. Local models handle search and spellcheck. No network calls, no keys, no accounts to connect.

BYOS means signing in with a subscription you already pay for — Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, or Copilot. Noteasy calls out to that account for suggestions, rewrites, or comments in the margin. You are not paying us for the model; you are paying whoever you already pay.

BYOK means pasting in an API key from OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, or pointing at a local runtime like LM Studio or Ollama. The key sits in a vault, separate from the notes database, and is only read at the moment a request is made.

At 10, your AI connects through MCP with a scoped token and can act on a folder of notes directly — see the "Allow your AI to access your Notes" guide for how that connection is built and how to revoke it.
